Getting Started with the Free Prayer Box Ministry
Pray:
If God has given you a vision to see prayer boxes used in your city, you obviously already believe in the power of prayer. Ask God to give you fellow prayer warriors to work alongside you. Ask that businesses in your area will be eager to have the prayer boxes in their establishments.
Tell Others:
As we have said before, the prayer boxes are designed to be used in a community by the body of Christ, but may also be used by individual Churches. Ask your pastor to allow you to present the vision to your church and/or to your local ministerial association. There is now a video available to help present the vision to others. For more information go to our home page.
Funding:
You can get different size packages of boxes or an introductory pack with our video or DVD to start the Free Prayer Box ministry in your community (See order materials). In Mount Vernon, the Pastors of the Knox Ministerial Association are working alongside the prayer box volunteers and working together to provide the funding for our boxes. God may provide other ways of funding the boxes - pray and see how God leads you.
Some Other Suggestions (What we did in Mt. Vernon)
Figure out what local information should be added to the front of the box: a phone number where other people who see the boxes can get one from your organization.
After you get a supply of Boxes, get some folded and place an instruction sheet in each box.
Find Pastors or others who will present the prayer box idea to their congregations and give the boxes to the people who want them. The new video is a great tool that can help you do this.
Contact your local radio talk shows and newspapers and ask them to present the idea to their audiences. Your objective is to find businesses that want a prayer box and people who want to pray.
You may want to keep a list of who is praying and what businesses have boxes. I started by doing that in Knox County, but it soon got too big for me to keep a list. Now we stress the importance of being committed to the task, and ask the prayer box volunteers to take the box to a business that doesn't already have one. If you take it into a business and they have one, praise God, and take yours somewhere else.
You may also want to find a volunteer who will call business owners to explain the ministry and make a list of places who want boxes, and then call churches who are involved in the prayer box ministry who are near the business to find someone from their congregations who will adopt that business.
Get some posters made, inviting people who believe in prayer to become involved in the ministry, including the same phone number that is on the boxes.
You may want to copy the prayer requests and get a prayer group in your church or others who pray to join you in prayer for the requests that you collect.
